The Hurricanes have done the remarkable and have some how managed to top the New Zealand conference after the round robin stage of Super Rugby. Starting the final weekend in third place the Hurricanes needed a number of thing's to happen and the Rugby gods assisted.
First the Hurricanes demolished the Crusaders in Christchurch 35-10 securing a bonus point along the way. Next saw the Highlanders defeat the Chiefs 25-15 in Dunedin with neither team securing the bonus point the Hurricanes topped the NZ conference by the smallest of margins with only 3 points separating the Hurricanes 53, Highlanders 52, Chiefs 51, and Crusaders 50.
Having to wait until the final game of the round to see if they would top the combined ladder the Lions who took a gamble a left 15 players out of their team lost to the Jaguares in Argentina 34-22 to to see the Canes top the table.
